FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Axes, spears, jewellery, shipping and custom orders — here are the questions I hear most often. Yours isn't here? Write to me directly.

Axes and spears

Are the axes and spearheads sharp?

I say so plainly on every piece. Working and battle axes ship sharpened, ready to use; decorative and re-enactment versions have a blunted edge. I sell sharp items to adults only.

What steel do you forge axes and spearheads from?

Carbon tool steel and spring steel (most often C70, 1065 and 50HS). I harden the edge in oil and leave the poll softer so the axe does not crack on impact. The exact grade and hardness are in the product specification.

What wood are the hafts and shafts made of?

Ash — the traditional wood for tool handles and spear shafts, springy and resistant to cracking. On request I carve hafts from hickory or oak. I finish the wood with linseed oil.

Can I throw the axe?

Only models marked as throwing axes — they have the right weight, balance and a short haft. A battle or bearded axe is not made for it and may be damaged falling on a hard surface.

How do I care for the steel of an axe or spearhead?

After every use wipe the blade dry and give it a thin coat of oil (camellia or ordinary gun oil). Store it somewhere dry, in its leather cover — but not closed up for long, as leather holds moisture. Light rust comes off with fine sandpaper and oil.

Norse jewellery

What do you make the jewellery from?

I forge and engrave it by hand from steel, brass and 925 sterling silver. Pendants hang on a natural leather cord or a chain. The material of each piece is in its description.

How do I choose a bracelet or ring size?

Forged bracelets are open, so you can gently fit them to your wrist by bending the ends apart or together. Rings I forge in a specific size — measure your finger with a strip of paper and add it to the order notes, or write to me.

What do the runes on the jewellery mean?

Each rune of the Elder Futhark had its own meaning — for example Fehu is wealth, Algiz protection and Tiwaz courage and justice. A bind rune is several runes joined into one sign. With every pendant I explain what its runes mean.

Brass darkens — is that a defect?

No, it is a natural patina. Brass and silver darken over time; many customers keep it on purpose because it brings out the runes. You can restore the shine with metal polish or a jeweller's cloth.

Orders and shipping

Do you take custom orders?

Yes, and with the greatest pleasure — an axe in your own shape, a spearhead for a particular shaft, a pendant with a chosen rune or a name written in the futhark. Describe your idea in the contact form and I'll send a quote and lead time before any payment.

How long does it take?

Ready pieces ship in 1–3 working days. Made-to-order pieces I forge from scratch, usually in 2–4 weeks — I confirm the exact date by e-mail.

How do you pack axes and spears?

The blade is always in a cover, the whole thing in a rigid padded box. The parcel is insured. Jewellery travels in a linen pouch and a gift box.

Can I return a piece I bought?

You have 14 days to withdraw from the contract without giving a reason. The exception is items made to your specification, e.g. with a personal engraving. Details on the Shipping page and in the terms.

Which payment methods do you accept?

Bank transfer, and card via the secure Stripe gateway — when it is enabled in the shop. I ship once the payment arrives.

Didn't find your answer?

Write to me — I answer myself, usually within one working day.
