Viking bracelets — forged and twisted

A Viking bracelet was an ornament, a sign of status and… money — silver rings were cut into pieces and used to pay by weight. I hand-forge my bracelets: twisted hot, with rune engraving, finished with wolf or dragon heads.

Twisted, flat, with runes

A twisted bracelet is made of several bars twisted together hot — the most common pattern in Viking Age hoards. Flat bracelets leave room for engraving: runes, knotwork or an animal motif in the Urnes style.

All forged bracelets are open, so you can fit them to your wrist by gently bending the ends apart or together. If you prefer a specific size, give your wrist measurement in the order notes.

Frequently asked

How do I choose the size of a Viking bracelet?

Measure your wrist and add 1.5–2 cm. The bracelets are open, so there is plenty of adjustment — bend them slowly, with both hands, not in one spot.

Does a steel bracelet rust?

Carbon steel can tarnish in contact with water and sweat. Just wipe it now and then with a drop of oil or wax. If you want a bracelet with no upkeep, choose brass or silver.

Is it a good gift?

Very — I pack every bracelet in a linen pouch and a box. On request I'll add a card explaining the meaning of the runes.
