Skeggøx — the “bearded axe” — is the most versatile Viking axe. The beard drawn downwards gives a long edge for little weight, and below it there is room for your hand, so you can also carve and hew wood with it.
I forge the head from 50HS spring steel, which takes impacts well. I harden the edge and leave the poll softer. The short, 60-centimetre ash haft makes the axe handy in camp and on the road.
